30 Years in Design

November 15, 2018 by Di Henshall

Well the year is quickly coming to an end and we are baffled at the thought. It hasn’t been a regular year here at Di Henshall Interior design though, it has actually been rather special. This year marks 30 years in business as Di Henshall Interior Design!! A remarkable achievement if we do say so ourselves. If you know us at all, we certainly didn’t keep it low key. The week started off with two newspaper articles, followed by a surprise party for Di and then wrapped up with a weekend trip to Melbourne! It has been a whirl wind of good wishes and champagne as we celebrated a mammoth achievement for Di.

Noosa News                                   DHID crew at Basils Farm in Swan Bay with Basil the llama.

It was only a week before the 30th birthday celebration that we were at the HIA Awards night where we took home the award for Best Kitchen Design. If you remember from our previous newsletter, it was the kitchen that we transformed from a dark and tired space into a bright and functional kitchen for our clients. Pictured below is the award winning kitchen along with Di and our wonderful clients.

Before                                                                              After                                                                                      Di and our wonderful clients, Gary & Judy

Di’s Architectural Tour

Well, Di’s been busy collecting worldly ideas again, this time throughout Scandinavia as she set off on a guided architectural tour. A purposeful trip for Di to experience and learn about architects and designers across northern Europe. Di was one of the first people in years allowed in to see Jørn Utzon’s home in Denmark. A privilege like no other to designers and the like. (If you don’t know who he is – think Sydney Opera house!) Totally in her element, we were worried about not getting her back! Fortunately, she is back in the office and sharing her wonderful ideas for future jobs.

Queensland Homes

The same beautiful home that won Best Kitchen Design also featured in this issue of Queensland Homes. It goes into detail about the clients’ brief and how we achieved a modern European take on a weary 80s home in Noosaville. You can grab yourself a copy in newsagents or just give us a bell and we will fix you up with a copy.

With Christmas and New Year fast approaching, we wish you all the best for this silly season and will check in with you next year.

Until next time,

Di Henshall & The Team

Time Flies When You’re Having Fun

July 15, 2018 by Di Henshall

They say time flies when you’re having fun and my goodness half the year has passed by already and we aren’t quite sure where it’s gone. We have taken on various projects across different states and postcodes which will be keeping us busy throughout this last part of 2018. So, take a look at what has been going on in the lives of the Di Henshall Interior Design team.
Denfair Melbourne
The design team braved the cold and rainy weather and ventured down to Melbourne for the annual Denfair trade show – A place where designers get the warm and fuzzies finding new products and innovative ideas for our clients. Not a bad excuse to relish in the local fare either (Melbourne is a vegetarian’s dreamland)

Di’s trip to London and Amsterdam

Di had a very fast trip to the UK in May to attend the amazing Clerkenwell Design Week, where an entire suburb of inner-city London opens its collective design company doors to the design industry. Di clocked up 27,000 steps in one day, trudging through street after street of the latest innovative products. After a brief trip out of London to visit Hever Castle in Kent (childhood home of Anne Boleyn), Di took off to Amsterdam for a few days of fun with some very close friends. We all got to have some Dutch cheese when she got back – yes, she declared it! AND – one of our former designers, Claire, from Wales, caught up with Di in London (see second pic).
Why do you hire an interior designer?
Well, because interior designers are a magical bunch! Turning otherwise dark and tired spaces into light filled, invigorating spaces. Behold the allurement of good interior design below…
Before                                                                                                                     After

Feature in IN Noosa magazine
If you haven’t already, you should pop down to any good café or retail store in Noosa to pick up the latest issue of In Noosa magazine. We are featured across two pages in this issue, talking about one of our star New Zealand homes. I know that most of our wonderful clients and friends may be reading this newsletter 10,000kms away from Noosa, so if you would like us to send you a copy of the magazine all you have to do is ask and we will send you a copy. ?

Queensland Homes Feature
We’re trying not to repeat ourselves but we just really love this design project we completed in New Zealand last year. As it turns out, the magazine editors do too! The wonderful team at Queensland Homes has always kept an eye on our projects and have also published our latest New Zealand home in their last issue. Keep an eye on their next issue due in September where we have a local project featured this time.

We have been working on a couple of exciting projects in Brisbane which will be in a picture-perfect condition very shortly. By the next newsletter we will have some gorgeous photos to share with you on the projects.
Di is also about to embark on another architectural tour of northern Europe, so there’ll be more stories about that in our next newsletter to you.
Our repeat business remains at around 70%, which Di still finds amazing. She and all the team are so thankful and grateful for the support we get from our beloved clients, who have learned to trust our intuition and guidance with their businesses and homes.
Until next time,
Di Henshall & The Team

It’s Almost Easter!

March 11, 2018 by Di Henshall

Hello again,

Crikey! It’s almost Easter and we have hit the ground running yet again with business trips to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, project installations and taking on new clients across Australia and NZ!

Our designers (well most of them) have been to an industry trade show in Sydney recently to scout the latest in product and design for our wonderful clients and have come home teeming with knowledge and inspiration for our projects.

The start of this year has been all about fresh starts, so we have been cleaning out our finishes library to make way for the newest in style and technologies. The team has been to Brisbane three times already to visit some of our suppliers and wholesalers. The lovely people at Abey Kitchen + Bath welcomed us to their design network and invited us to a training session at their comprehensive Brisbane showroom. The team at Winning Appliances show their continual support of DHID by inviting us for lunch and other events at their grand 3 level showroom in Brisbane.

We are going global again with another upcoming project in New Zealand, always a good excuse to visit our neighbours across the ditch! Our other projects will take us to Brisbane, Gold Coast, Hamilton Island and of course the Sunshine Coast. We are thrilled to be designing another medical practice which will be in Brisbane this time around.  If you don’t remember, our last medical practice design won a Master Builders award!

With lots of exciting things on the agenda, 2018 is shaping up to be a year of hard work and fun design projects. Don’t forget to follow us on social media to keep up to date with our work. Ring me immediately if you need any help/advice with any design issues/plans/projects/vegetarian recipes (?).

Until next time,

Wow it’s December Already!

December 10, 2017 by Di Henshall

Hello again,

Wow it’s December already and Christmas is a blip away. The last few months have flown by, with client meetings around the country, international design tours and social events. We’ve had tonnes of new design work, which has kept the team flat chat.

When I sat down to write this update to you I found it great reflecting on what our team has been able to experience and achieve over these last few months. I am so grateful for all the amazing people who share this with us.

In September I went on a brilliant design trip to the South of France and Italy where I made some great new friends, got to catch up with lovely old friends in the Auvergne and fell in love with some absolutely fabulous pieces that I had to bring back to Australia.

Back in Oz, a few visits to Melbourne and Hamilton Island continuing the work on planning the renovations of apartments that were damaged by Cyclone Debbie.

One of our commercial design projects was put in the spotlight when it won the HIA-iLandscape Sunshine Coast / Wide Bay Housing Awards – Commercial Interior Design Project 2017. I love designing medical practices like this, which are usually cold and uninviting.

Our Melbourne Cup celebration was great with the Di Henshall Team taking out most of the day’s winnings. To all the Resident Hero boys ‘n’ gal we promise this was not rigged, we were just evening the score from last year. I think the fascinators had a lot to do with our luck!

Our Christmas Party would not be the same unless it was held at my place and included a traditional Christmas dinner, side dishes made with love by the team, then followed by pudding and the most amazing dessert compliments of Claudia’s husband Robbie. This was all worked off with a boogie on the dance floor, a few games of pool and loads of laughter.

We are well and truly settled into our new premises now and have had some clients pop in to take a look around. If you haven’t had the chance to visit us to see how we work, including how our cabinetry and custom furniture is created, please give us a call and we will give you the grand tour!

Thank you for your friendship and support this year, and I wish you and your family a magical Christmas and prosperous New Year.

Until next time,
