Bars and Cellars - Are they worth it?
If you are a non-drinker I would skip this article, you will be bored to snores. However, if you are someone that loves and appreciates good wine, a nice shot of single-malt, or just someone loving to entertain your friends, then a bar or a cellar, or both, could be something to consider. The best news is that most bars and cellars that we have designed have been retro-fitted, meaning that you don’t necessarily have to have a new-build to incorporate one into your home.
Serving a drink from a bar is a far different experience than mixing a cocktail on the kitchen bench, or worse still, going out to the spare fridge in the garage. Pubs used to be the epicentre of social gathering back in the day, but more people now entertain at home, which has increased the interest and inclusion of a bar and/or cellar.
When designing for properties in rural areas, Victoria, NSW and NZ for example, the approach to the design comes in from a different angle due to the local climate, the natural light, the architecture of the region, the landscape and orientation. All of these elements give us the opportunity to expand and express our design philosophy in a broadened way, suited to the locale.
