Does Your Bedroom Make You Go “ZZZZ”? – Di Henshall Bedroom Interior Design
Di Henshall offers some simple yet effective ways to update your bedroom using simple Interior Design tricks!
Sometimes your bedroom shouldn’t send you to sleep.
Look at this room as a safe haven away from the rest of the world, a place where you can relax and unwind, read, get dressed, listen to music, chat with your partner, feel good about yourself.
Bedrooms should feel serene, luxurious, calm, welcoming and tranquil.
Does your bedroom feel cluttered, disorganised, a storage space for things that don’t quite belong there? Does your bedside table look like a jumble of messy little items that really should be in a place of their own? Does your robe have mismatched hangers, with clothes that don’t have room to breathe or are they assembled in colour co-ordinated rows on smart timber hangers? Do your shoes pile up in slightly chaotic mounds or are they neatly stored and easy to access? Does your underwear drawer look neat and tidy, with rows of colour matched pieces?
Time to give your bedroom a real facelift – most of what is necessary to re-invent your bedroom is not that taxing – after all, the main piece of furniture is usually a bed, so that takes care of most of it! Here I go again – clear out the rubbish in your life – buy a plastic storage box and every time you go into your wardrobe, pick out something that you haven’t used for a long time and put it in the storage box – to give to charity. It is a good cleansing thing to do and will also help you realise what things are important to you and what things can be given to a grateful recipient.
Lighting – low energy bulbs usually have what is referred to as Cool White and Warm White choices – always go for the Warm White ones for a bedroom – softer, more gentle light, but still good enough to read by. Look at your bedside lights – are they tall enough for you to read under? There is a tendency to buy lamps that are squat, which tend to make a bedroom look a bit silly and unimportant – when in doubt buy TALL lamps, they look a lot more masterful.
Autumn is here – not that we know much about that in Queensland – but the nights are getting longer and will eventually get cooler, so this is a great time to look at new bedding. If you would like a classic look, that doesn’t date or clash with other furnishings, choose white or cream, plain sheeting with plain duvet covers or bedspreads (that are washable!). You can always add colour and interest with a bed end throw or a couple of cushions – or even the bedhead. Don’t go overboard with the use of cushions – most men HATE loads of cushions all over the bed – plus you have the nightly dilemma of where to put them so you don’t trip over them in the middle of the night.
Just spend one afternoon taking a serious look at your bedroom and ask yourself Is This Your Dream Bedroom. If it isn’t, trawl through magazines until you find what it is that turns you on and then set about changing things for the better. You can then go Zzzzz with a clear conscience and sweet dreams.
